Certificate Program Description:
This certificate program consists of 8 modules and is designed to advance the professional knowledge and clinical skills of Occupational Therapists (OTs) and Occupational Therapy Assistants (OTAs) practicing in acute care hospital settings. The content is grounded in the Occupational Therapy Practice Framework: Domain and Process, Fourth Edition (OTPF–4) and addresses the evaluation, intervention, outcomes, and professional roles of occupational therapy across medically complex and time-sensitive environments.
The program consists of a series of modules that address core and specialized areas of acute care practice, including evaluation and clinical reasoning, occupation-based intervention, Emergency Department practice, burn rehabilitation, pediatric acute care, discharge planning, ethics, and leadership. Instruction emphasizes patient safety, inter-professional collaboration, evidence-informed practice, and ethical decision-making consistent with occupational therapy standards.
Educational content is delivered through didactic instruction, applied case examples, and practice-based scenarios to support the integration of knowledge into clinical practice. The program is designed to enhance participants’ ability to apply OTPF–4 concepts, support functional outcomes, and promote safe and effective transitions of care.
This program is appropriate for entry-level to experienced OTs and OTAs seeking continuing competence in acute care practice and specialty areas within hospital-based occupational therapy.
